The dip is reflecting the base of the back of head above neck. It was the look of Roaring 20s - a fashion revival after WW!. You may be able to block a shallow dome crown before the shape dips but size of the block will need to be checked first and see if…</p>

The dip is reflecting the base of the back of head above neck. It was the look of Roaring 20s - a fashion revival after WW!. You may be able to block a shallow dome crown before the shape dips but size of the block will need to be checked first and see if suits head size. With Balsa, which is more fragile than timber Block makers choose, avoid too many pins as it will weaken the grain- use elastic band or string to keep straw or felt in place when steaming Tip upside down for flat tip crown or pillbox if base is smooth The back may vere inwards but that's what bows are for :)  So glad you are adding to you knowledge through Hat Academy.
