Where is everyone buying their velour fur felt hoods?

Hi Everyone,

The two places in Europe I was finding fur felts in bulk, either have stopped taking orders or the price has tripled. I know their are a few places in the US to find retail prices. Does anyone get their felts from Mexico? Or ?? Looking to buy in bulk at a discount.

HI! i have just received 3 little button blocks and would like to block them in felt.

I have a new felt hood, but I was wondering if it is necessary to use a new hood, or would a scrap of felt be good enough to do the shape?

Sorry, I am not very experienced with felt yet!

I have been enamored by draped hats, mainly felts. What type of felt would be best to do this on? Are they all the same in regards to stretching it to drape it? Thank you for your help!

PLEASE HELP: How do i, fashion student create a really huge brimed felt hat ?

Hello everyone,

i am a student from Germany and study fashion design. For one of my current courses, i want to create a look including a felt hat, inspired by the illustration u can see below. The small Problem is i have none and my Professor only limited Knowledge of hatmaking, luckily my University has quite a lot of equipment for it.

Now to the question or rather problem, how do i get a really huge and oversized felt brim stiff enough ?

Would be a normal stiffner like shellack or something simmiliar enough that it wont "flop" down? I as well had the idea to include, maybe small hidden wooden or metal rods in the brim is that an option or another idea to hold the brim up ? Or should i maybe choose an entirely differnent material, since felt can be quite heavy ? I really have no idea what i can do so any tipp is welcome :)

Vegan felt cones - anyone know a supplier??

Hi everyone, this may seem like a really strange request, but I'm looking for the kind of felt that is made from recycled plastic bottles or the like, ie not from an animal... I know it there is a company who uses it in America, but I was wondering if anyone has come across a supplier selling them? I can find flat pieces of felt, but not suitable for blocking with. I'm in the UK but it doesn't have to be a UK supplier, I'd go worldwide!!

Blocking felt indents on trilby/fedora crown

How do you block felt over the indents of a fedora or trilby crown block?

I have pinned the felt into these indents previously but it leaves a pin hold mark in the felt. I have seen pressers used for saucer hats and wondered if this was a good idea and where I could get one/ improvise with household items!

Giving fur felt a velour finish?

Hi Everyone - I have a beautiful fur felt hood with a single sided velour finish that I'd like to block into a style where the underside of the brim will show. I've heard there's a way to treat the flat side of the felt to give it a velour finish but have no idea how this is done.

Is anyone familiar with this technique?

Felt trims--when to glue and when to stitch?

Hello, experienced milliners. I'm working on a felt cloche on which I've applied some pointy sword-like felt pieces as trim. In general, I like to avoid using glue but now that I've stitched them on, there are about half a dozen tiny knots on the inside of the crown. My thread is an exact match so it's not a glaring problem, but I wondered if it's more acceptable to glue felt trims on in this case to avoid even tiny knots showing. I have a few vintage felt hats and the stitches securing their felt trims are large and obvious inside the crown, so perhaps it's ok to have small knots showing? Should I add a lining to hide the knots?

I'd love to hear what others do!

CAN YOU USE FELT STIFFENER TO STIFFEN SINAMAY?

Urgent question...! Does anyone know if you can use Crodalac felt stiffener to stiffen sinamay?

I've made a free-form sinamay wire brimmed hat (pic below), but I need to stiffen the brim. I dont want to use water-based straw stiffener as I think the moisture will cause the brim to lose its shape.

Any thoughts? Thanks!
