Hello!It's been a while since I've been here. Had quite a creative block for a while and only sold $480 last year I'm heading for a bright new year however.Does anyone make hats with a wide tulle brim? I saw one, somewhere (In the British Hat Talk I think)  and have been fascinated on how it's done. The brim is tulle with basically a wired edge with a 2 inch high pillbox for the crown. My problem is  how to attach the two parts. All kinds of possibilities have been going through my head, but none of them seem very permanent  or without giving the two pieces the "Big Uglies" at the place of attachment,My hat making spot has some nice Dupioni in a medium blue and some embroidered tulle with blue/black/white/gold flowers making up the embroideryPlease let me know any ideas. My shop's name is "Helen's Hatbox" but the name isn't particularly elegant and sound's "old ladyish".  I have had no repeat buyers and a very scattered client base, so I really don't have any client base to lose. My first name "Helen" sounds "old ladyish" too. My grandfather's grandmother's name was Sarah McFarland. She overcame quite a bit and was a pioneer woman who accomplished a great deal. What if I use her name? Sarah is a name that any age of woman can identify with and sounds 1000% more interesting than "Helen's Hatbox"See More

Volunteered myself at  a new high school's drama department. Have made a maid's bonnet and two british sailor hats and am working on their big Commander's hat. Don't know if the Aussies use this hat in their Navy, but here is a Yank's version.Materials; Poster board, florist wire, wide bias tape , black broadcloth, white broadcloth and my new sewing/embroidery machine. I have to make 9 of these, have made 2 already. Have already cut out all of my pieces and only takes me 3-4 hours each if my sewing machine and everything else goes as planned.See More
